Teeth whitening

Almost every person dreams of the shining snow-white smile. There are several ways to achieve this result. The most painless and quick is teeth whitening with the help of special medical devices.

We use the Beyond-2 apparatus (USA), which can whiten teeth up to 3 tones. The preparation for whitening contains about 35% hydrogen peroxide (Н2О2).

Furthermore, we use whitening methods with Ultradent Opalescence Go teeth protector. This is a home whitening method using a gel with a lower concentration of hydrogen peroxide (10-15%). This method is capable of whitening teeth up to 1-1.5 shades.

One more method of whitening is activation of the preparation with a laser (clinical whitening). This method is used for more sensitive teeth. The concentration of hydrogen peroxide is up to 25%. This method can whiten teeth up to 2 tones.

Indications and contraindications

Whitening is indicated in all cases if your target is to whiten the tone of the teeth. The exceptions are cases where whitening is contraindicated: women during pregnancy and lactation, children under 16 years old, should not whiten their teeth using the hardware method because the child's tooth enamel tissues are not yet fully formed.

The presence of crowns / bridges / restorations on those teeth that need to be whitened. These constructions and materials cannot be whitened, however, they can be replaced and the color of the teeth after the procedure can be compared with the color of the dentures / crowns / composites.

Whitening by Beyond 2 apparatus

Before the procedure, it is necessary to carry out professional oral hygiene. After that, we isolate the teeth with a liquid rubber dam, dry the tooth enamel and cover the teeth with liquid whitening gel using a special brush.
After applying the gel we put on an ultraviolet cap for 16 minutes. Afterwards, we clean the tooth enamel and repeat twice more the procedure for applying the gel-cap for 16 minutes. In total, there are only three stages of whitening, 16 minutes each.
Depending on the wishes of the patient, the characteristics of the organism (sensitivity of the teeth) the total whitening time can be reduced, but not increased.

Teeth whitening: Frequently Asked Questions

How long will the whitening effect last?

The result of this procedure lasts for about a year. It depends on the food you eat, bad habits and oral hygiene.

What I should do first: whiten teeth or change teeth fillings?

After oral hygiene, it is better to whiten your teeth and then change the fillings. With this scheme, an aesthetic effect will be achieved.

Why can only 16 teeth be whitened?

This is due to the fact that it is impossible to isolate a larger number of teeth from moisture (saliva) and the procedure for teeth whitening is done only on dry enamel.

How often can whitening be done?

Due to the high risk of damage to the enamel of the teeth it is not recommended to repeat the procedure more often than every six months.

Can I do whitening if I have sensitive teeth?

Teeth sensitivity is a relative contraindication to whitening. This means it is undesirable to do such a procedure, but it can be done under the supervision of a doctor. And we recommend our patients with sensitivity do not carry out such manipulations at home.

What is a tooth plaque indicator

Plaque is the main cause of caries and gingivitis. Soft dental deposits accumulate on the teeth, in the interdental spaces, and also in the gum pockets after each meal. To control the effectiveness of cleaning teeth, gums, tongue and prevent the development of many dental diseases, special tools help – indicators of plaque.

The action of these agents is based on the staining of dental plaque and the detection of places of their greatest accumulation. Brightly stained in a color that contrasts with the teeth, plaque becomes clearly visible, and you brush your teeth more thoroughly, as well as see those areas in the oral cavity that should be paid more attention when brushing your teeth.

How to choose toothpaste?

Which toothpaste is preferred for specific oral problems? When choosing a toothpaste on your own, you need to pay attention to whether it contains substances potentially harmful to the teeth. For example, coarse abrasive substances that adversely affect tooth enamel.

Care should be taken with toothpastes that have triclosan or chlorhexidine. Cleaning with such pastes may be necessary in the treatment of gum disease. However, long-term use (more than 3 weeks) of a paste with antibacterial substances can lead to a violation of the beneficial microflora of the oral cavity.

In this video, dentist Alina Nadkernychna will analyze in detail the toothpastes that we bought in a regular store and explain why it is better not to buy some pastes, and which ones you can.
