Contraindications to sedation
Relative contraindications:
- High intracranial pressure.
- Use of hallucinatory / psychotropic drugs during the last two weeks.
- Use of alcohol in the last 12 hours.
- Ocular surgeries during the last two weeks.
- Acute chronic obstructive diseases of lungs.
- Pulmonary tuberculosis.
- Acute ear-nose-throat pathologies (sinusitis, frontitis, maxillary sinusitis, ethmoiditis, sphenoiditis, otitus, rhinitis).
- Impaired / lack of nasal breathing.
- Eating in the last 4 hours.
- Drinking in the last 4 hours for children / in the last 2 hours for adults.
Relative contraindications (with patient’s consent and at doctor’s discretion):
- Panic attacks.
- Mental disorders.
- Use of hallucinatory / psychotropic drugs more than two weeks ago.
- Use of alcohol in the last 24 hours.
- Respiratory infections.
- Spastic episodes throughout life.
- Craniocerebral injuries.
- Neoplasms, regardless of localisation.
- Chronic obstructive diseases of lungs in remission.
- Ear-nose-throat pathologies (sinusitis, frontitis, maxillary sinusitis, ethmoiditis, sphenoiditis, otitus, rhinitis) in remission.

How quickly will I sink into a state of complete relaxation?
Putting a patient into a state necessary for treatment takes several seconds.
Can I fall asleep in the course of treatment?
No, doctors control your state during the whole treatment, their task is to make you stay conscious in the course of manipulations.
Can I drive just after sedation?
Yes, you can, unless there are relative contraindications to sedation.
Is it safe for a child?
Yes, what is more, it is safer than local anaesthetics. The most important thing is to make sure that your child does not have associated diseases described in contraindications.
