Indications and contraindications for teeth whitening
Indications
Teeth whitening is indicated in all cases where your goal is to lighten the shade of your teeth. A common request is whitening after orthodontic treatment, when the patient already has straight teeth, or during preparation for aesthetic restoration of one jaw. In this case, the natural teeth on one jaw can be whitened, and the restorations on the other jaw can be made in a lighter shade.
Contraindications
The presence of crowns/bridges/restorations on the teeth that need to be whitened. These structures and materials cannot be whitened; however, they can be replaced and matched after the procedure to the color of prostheses/crowns/composite materials. The procedure is also contraindicated for women during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and for children under 18, because a child’s tooth enamel tissues are not yet fully formed.

Why can only 16 teeth out of the 32 present be whitened?
This is because it is impossible to isolate a larger number of teeth from moisture (saliva), and teeth whitening is performed only on dry enamel.
How often can whitening be done?
Repeating the procedure more often than once every six months is not recommended, because this creates a high risk of damaging tooth enamel.
Can I have whitening if I have sensitive teeth?
Tooth sensitivity is a relative contraindication to whitening. This means the procedure is not desirable, but it can be done under a doctor’s supervision. We strongly do not recommend that patients with sensitivity perform similar procedures at home.
