The young man's parents complained to MM Dental about the unsatisfactory aesthetic appearance of the smile (uneven teeth), as well as the impossibility of a normal bite due to lack of sufficient contact of the front teeth and excessive protrusion of the lower jaw. The patient wished to align the dentition, to bring all the teeth into contact for a full bite of food, as well as to correct the displaced centerline along the incisors of the upper and lower jaw, as this defect visually made the face asymmetrical.
The treatment of this clinical case was a quite difficult task because the patient had several serious problems, including:
- protruding lower jaw due to the peculiarities of the structure of the facial skeleton (excessive growth of the lower jaw, mesial occlusion)
- anterior open bite (lack of sufficient contact of the front teeth)
- cross-bite on the right, crowding of teeth
- additionally he had a noticeable facial asymmetry and displacement of the centerline.
Usually, in similar situations, it is necessary to perform an orthognathic surgery on jaws besides installation of a bracket system for treatment of the above-stated pathologies. Doctors in our clinic know techniques that in most cases allow avoiding such surgical interventions.
Computed tomography control
Dentistry
Fixation of the bracket system
Wisdom teeth removal
Bracket system removal
In this case, we managed to do without jaw surgery (orthognathic surgery). A positive result was achieved by using a standard metal bracket system when the patient constantly wears elastic rods (elastics).
The duration of treatment was 12 months. The patient was recommended to wear retainers for the next 3–5 years to completely stabilize the position of the teeth and to avoid recurrence (re-curvature of the dentition).
